Why Canada’s Ranchers Are Switching to
Virtual Fencing
Wildfires, steep terrain, and harsh weather make maintaining fences a costly, time-consuming challenge for every cattle rancher in Canada. When wildfires destroy fencing, ranchers are often left waiting months (or even years!) to rebuild before cattle can return to grazing.
With eShepherd™, you can get your livestock back on pasture immediately — no rebuilding required.
Simply draw a virtual fence in the app, and your herd safely stays within that boundary.

How It Works

Fit the Solar-Powered Neckband
Each animal wears a durable, solar-powered neckband with built-in GPS tracking. The neckband are designed to withstand Canada’s rugged ranching conditions — rain, snow, or heat.

Set Your Virtual Fence in the App
Open the eShepherd app and map out your paddocks or exclusion zones in seconds. We’ll help with neckband fitting, training, and app setup, plus ongoing support.

Cattle Learn Through Gentle Cues
When livestock approach the virtual boundary, they hear an audio cue that teaches them to turn back. If they continue past the line, a mild, humane pulse reinforces the boundary — ensuring cattle stay safely contained.

Monitor and Adjust Anytime
Livestock learn to respond to sound cues before reaching the virtual boundary. You can monitor and adjust everything from your phone or computer in real time — anytime, anywhere.
Key Benefits for Canadian Ranchers
Wildfire Recovery
Wildfires can wipe out miles of fencing overnight. With eShepherd™, you can resume cattle ranching operations within days. Set up a new virtual barrier on your phone or computer and get your cows grazing again — no need to rebuild expensive fences.
Rotational Grazing Made Simple
Rotational grazing is proven to improve pasture health and soil quality. With eShepherd™, you can easily move your herd between pastures, optimizing forage utilization and preventing overgrazing. Healthier grass means healthier livestock and higher long-term yields.
Riparian Protection
Keep cattle out of rivers, wetlands, or other sensitive zones. eShepherd™ virtual fencing allows you to draw boundaries that protect these areas — without costly or permanent fencing.
Save Time and Money
No more endless hours of pounding posts, fixing wire, or hauling materials. eShepherd™ saves you thousands in materials and labour, giving you more time to focus on your ranch.
Total Peace of Mind
Track every animal 24/7 with GPS visibility and real-time alerts for boundary breaches or unusual behaviour.

Real Results from Canadian Ranchers
“I like the freedom that it gives me. I don’t have to go to the field every day to check on them, because I know where they are exactly at all times.”
Before eShepherd™, Dave spent hours each day checking fences and locating cattle across large pastures. Now, with GPS visibility and real-time alerts, he knows where every animal is, without leaving his house. The result: less labour, lower stress, and smarter grazing management. eShepherd™ is helping ranchers like Dave embrace a more flexible, efficient, and sustainable way to manage cattle across Canada.

What is eShepherd™?
eShepherd™ is a GPS-enabled virtual fencing system that uses solar-powered neckbands and a mobile app to control where your cattle graze. Virtual fences are drawn on a digital map, and cattle are trained to stay within them using sound cues and gentle pulses when necessary.
Is there a minimum order for eShepherd neckbands?
Yes, the minimum order quantity is 20 neckbands. This ensures proper setup and configuration for your herd management system.
Why use eShepherd instead of traditional fencing?
Virtual fencing eliminates posts, wires, and physical barriers — meaning you can fence or subdivide pastures anywhere, anytime.
It’s perfect for rotational and adaptive grazing, improves forage use, and saves on material and labor costs.
Is eShepherd™ safe and humane for livestock?
Yes. eShepherd™ was developed using behavioral science to ensure animal welfare. Cattle learn to respond to audio cues, rarely requiring pulses. Less stress, less handling, and consistent grazing mean healthier, calmer animals.
Can eShephered™ be used for other livestock?
Currently, eShepherd™ is designed for cattle over 200 kg (440 lbs), including bulls. It is not suited for sheep or goats.
What if I have no cell signal on my property?
eShepherd™ offers a LoRa (long-range radio) option using local base stations in areas with limited or nonexistent cell coverage. Even when temporarily offline, the collars continue working safely from the last saved instructions.
How long does the battery last?
Each neckband is solar-powered and built with a 7–10 year lithium iron phosphate battery — rugged, waterproof (IPX7), and tested for Canadian conditions. With a few hours of sunlight, it stays powered for several days.
What happens if communication fails?
Virtual paddocks remain active for up to 24 hours after losing connection. After that, boundaries deactivate safely so animals can roam.
How do I get started?
We’ll assess your property and connectivity to determine whether Direct Cellular or LoRa Base Station is right for you.
Once set up, we’ll guide you through training, mapping, and app setup.
How do I train my herd?
Most cattle learn within 3–10 days. We recommend training in groups of at least 20 animals for best results — the herd learns together through leadership behavior.
Is it a purchase or subscription?
eShepherd™ is a capital purchase with a small monthly data fee. It may qualify for tax incentives or funding programs in your province.
